11 bit studios<\/span><\/i> is proud to draw back the curtain and present the first glimmer of a brand-new title in the <\/span>Frostpunk<\/span><\/i> franchise; <\/span>a project that revisits and expands upon the beloved city-builder and society survival experience of the original Frostpunk<\/b>, now fully reimagined in <\/span>Unreal Engine<\/b>. This is <\/span>Frostpunk 1886<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

With the studio\u2019s proprietary <\/span>Liquid Engine<\/b>, which powered not only the original <\/span>Frostpunk<\/span><\/i> but also <\/span>This War of Mine<\/span><\/i>, no longer in development, the team has long sought a new foundation to carry forward the legacy of the first game. While <\/span>Frostpunk 2<\/span><\/i> continues to forge ahead with <\/span>free major content updates<\/b>, a <\/span>console launch<\/b>, and <\/span>DLCs<\/b>, this newly announced project marks a return to the franchise\u2019s roots, offering both newcomers and longtime citizens of New London an evolved take on the <\/span>harsh, morally challenging survival experience<\/b> that started it all.<\/span><\/p>\n

But <\/span>Frostpunk 1886<\/span><\/i>\u2014so titled to honour a pivotal moment in the timeline of the universe, when the Great Storm descended upon New London\u2014is <\/span>no mere visual overhaul<\/b>. It builds upon the core of the original, expanding it with <\/span>new content, mechanics, laws<\/b>, and\u2014perhaps most excitingly\u2014<\/span>an entirely new Purpose path<\/b>, offering a fresh experience even for the most seasoned players.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reimagining <\/span>Frostpunk<\/span><\/i> in <\/span>Unreal Engine<\/b> also allows the game to become a <\/span>living, expandable platform<\/b>, bringing with it long-awaited <\/span>mod support<\/b>\u2014a community request that was previously impossible to realize due to technical limitations of the original engine\u2014as well as the possibility to add future DLC content.<\/span><\/p>\n

Frostpunk 1886 is set for release in 2027<\/b>, with development having already begun in early 2025. The title marks the start of a <\/span>new era<\/b> for 11 bit studios\u2014one focused on delivering in-house projects <\/span>more frequently<\/b> than ever before.<\/span><\/p>\n
