  3. If the game refuses to launch, please do the following:
    • If you have Razer Chroma SDK, Razer Synapse or Roccat Mouse Driver (v1.20 or above) installed on your PC, please uninstall it – these third-party apps have been causing problems with multiple games recently and we know it’s preventing Frostpunk from launching;
    • Reinstall the game
    • Increase the amount of virtual memory – please scroll down for more information
    • Verify games files via your Launcher – please scroll down for more information
    • Update your graphics card drivers – please scroll down for more information
    • Update your DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package
    • If you’re forcing anti-aliasing from graphics card control panel – be sure to disable it
    • Run the game in windowed mode
    • If you are using the custom resolution and/or downsampling, disable it
    • Disable Steam in-game overlay (If you run the game on Steam)
    • Be sure to launch the game as the administrator

  8. How can I update my GPU drivers?:
First and foremost, please do not use the tool that is built into your OS – these repositories are not updated frequently (or, in case of some GPUs, at all) and the tool is just fooling you into thinking that you’re running the latest build
    • If you have an Nvidia GPU, please follow this link: Nvidia Drivers
    • If you have an AMD GPU, please follow this link: AMD Drivers
    • The Intel iGPUs do not have enough grunt to run the game – please consult the minimum system requirements

  9. Screen resolutions issue – manual solution:
Some time after the launch of the game, we have started receiving reports that the game was launching in resolutions that were unsupported by users’ displays – we’ve fixed it to our best knowledge, but, it’s not humanly possible to test it on each and every hardware configuration. So if you – for some strange reason – still encounter this problem, do not despair, we have a manual solution for you:
    • We’ve added a special file to the game’s folder. It is called “GfxConfig.ini”
    • You can open it using Notepad – that’s easy!
    • Then you can change some setting by yourself – like Quality (Low – Very High), VSync, resolution, windowed mode/fullscreen
    • For these settings to work – you have to launch the game with -gfxconfig parameter (find instructions on how to do that below)
    • When you launch the game – you can change in-game settings as you please
    • However, whenever you launch the game again with -gfxconfig parameter – it will reset to settings from the GfxConfig.ini file
    • If you remove the -gfxconfig parameter – game will launch with the settings that you’ve selected in-game
So we suspect that most of you are going to:
    • Set windowed mode with a low resolution (800×600) set in GfxConfig.ini
    • Launch the game with -gfxconfig parameter
    • Change the settings to desired ones
    • Quit the game
    • Remove the -gfxconfig and launch the game without it from now on
How do I add -gfxconfig parameter (Steam)?:
    • Right-click on Frostpunk in your Steam library
    • Navigate to the “Local files” tab and click on “Browse Local Files…”
    • New explorer window with the game files will open, please find “Frostpunk.exe” in the folder
    • Create a shortcut to the application in the very same folder
    • Right-click on the newly-created shortcut, select “Properties”
    • In the “Target” line, add “ -gfxconfig” at the very end of the path (without the inverted commas but with the space before the dash character)
    • Apply the changes
    • Launch the game using the newly-created and edited shortcut

  10. My game works too slow and I have a killer PC, what should I do?:
While we have done a lot to optimize the game and the process is nowhere near completion (we gained a lot of optimization experience while developing the console version Frostpunk), we know that some of you encounter issues with framerate despite launching the game on machines that should handle it without any sign of trouble. These inconveniences usually happen on powerful gaming rigs that have been overclocked – please revert the CPU clock values to stock ones, it should help, even if it seems counterintuitive.

  11. I have two/three/four GPUs operating in SLI/Crossfire and the game seems to be using only one GPU – what should I do?:
Sadly, our engine does not support multiple GPU configurations and it will use only one of your cards

  12. The game doesn’t even start, what should I do (Steam)?:
    • First of all, please take a look at the troubleshooting guide above and make sure that you did everything we have mentioned there – only the full process ensures that the installation of the game and all the drivers are in order
    • Before doing any installations mentioned below, please unplug any additional controllers and USB devices (hubs, audio mixers, headsets, etc.) you have hooked up to your PC
    • Please make sure that you have installed both the latest VC package (available here), the 2013 one (available here) and the 2015 one (available here)
    • Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1: Please make sure that you have the KB4019990 update downloaded: here
    • Windows 7 ONLY: – Please make sure that you have The Windows 7 Platform Update installed here
    • Missing MSVCP140.dll: – Please install the following Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Update: here
    • Missing MSVCR120.dll: – Please install the following Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 package: here
    • Missing VCRUNTIME140.dll: Please install the following VC++ update: here
    • If that does not help, please prepare ConsoleOutput (it’s an HTML file that you can generate – instructions below), DxDiag and saves from your game and send them over to our Player Support
    • Please remember that the ConsoleOutput file should be copied as soon as an issue occurs. The file gets overwritten each time you run the game, so there is no information about the bug for us then

  13. How do I prepare the ConsoleOutput file and where can I find it (Steam)?:
    • Right-click on Frostpunk in your Steam library
    • Navigate to the “Local files” tab and click on “Browse Local Files…”
    • New explorer window with the game files will open, please find “Frostpunk.exe” in the folder
    • Create a shortcut to the application in the very same folder
    • Right-click on the newly-created shortcut, select “Properties”
    • In the “Target” line, add “ -console” at the very end of the path (without the inverted commas but with the space before the dash character)

  7. My game doesn’t launch at all:
No worries, we’re here to help you. Our community has reported that, for some reason, “Tower 57” can be blocked by your antivirus software without even notifying you. We know that Bitdefender and Comodo Antivirus are doing just that. There is a chance that other software can do the same, so please make sure that “Tower 57” is not blocked

  8. Game closes for no apparent reason:
    • If you are a backer who has been able to play the game at an earlier stage and you have left your saves from previous builds then as inconvenient as it is, you need to delete saves and other user-related files generated by pre-release versions of the game. To do so, please go to My Documents and delete the entire “Tower57” folder. Warning! You also need to disable Steam Cloud Save until a new save is generated, or Steam will download older saves that may be incompatible with the final release. You can re-enable the Steam Cloud as soon as you have new files in My Documents/
    • If you have had access to Preview Builds and haven’t updated the game. One of the earlier builds had a built-in timer that allowed you to play the game only for a certain period of time. This timer seems to be faulty on some hardware configurations and it triggers the closing of the game unexpectedly (it spans from one to a few minutes) and is not part of the final release. Updating the game should solve this issue

  9. Problem with controls:
If you’re having issues with controls (you’re unable to move and shoot in two independent directions), please delete file “default.stg” from \My Documents\Documents\Tower57. It’s a leftover from previous builds that may cause the controls to not work as intended

  10. Controller issues:
    • The gameplay defaults to the controller you have been using in the menu – if you have a controller plugged in but choose “New Game” or “Continue” in the main menu using keyboard, you won’t be able to play the game using the gamepad. In order to do so, please quit to the main menu and load the game/start a new game using the controller to select an option. It works both ways – if you have chosen the option in the menu using a controller, yet you want to play with keyboard and mouse, please quit to the main menu and restart the game using this input method
    • If all of the provided steps will not help please, send a message to our Player Support and attach a DxDiag file to the message explaining the issue

  11. How do I generate the DxDiag file?:

    • Type “DxDiag” and launch DxDiag
    • Click on “Save all information”
    • Save “Dxdiag.txt” file
